The question of whether Vance was dead or not became more than academic when he found himself in a bathtub up to his chin in ice water like some forgotten cocktail garnish, a demonic woman standing over him, and no memory of how he got there.

“My name’s Vance Coreman and I see things that other people don’t.”
The question of whether Vance was dead or not became more than academic when he found himself in a bathtub up to his chin in ice water like some forgotten cocktail garnish, a demonic woman standing over him, and no memory of how he got there. But that question was one among legion, because what memories he did have were as comforting as a blackjack in the dark. So it wasn’t surprising when he found out that trouble was his business, and business was kicking his door down. (e)

Description:Where a sufficiently advanced entertainment system is indistinguishable from magic.
Vance Coreman wakes in a bathtub full of ice water fully dressed, with no memory of how he got there or even who he is. He finds a scarlet-skinned and devil-horned woman in neat business attire standing over him telling him he has an appointment with a potential client and to stop lazing around. Miss Doolittle, his secretary, tells him that, yes she is a demon and that his name is Vance Coreman and that he's here to undertake investigations. The client turns out to be a beautiful angel fearful of her sorcerer husband and wanting to recover an artifact before her husband discover that she has stolen it. As Coreman tracks down the brazier he must also find out who he is and why someone trying to kill him.
Parallel Visions: City of Angels, City of Demons is an urban fantasy novel with a twist, and is the first of the Parallel Visions stories featuring Vance Coreman and his quest to uncover his past and those who stole it from him by retracing his path through the varied and fantastical Realms of AMBR.

Great Si-Fi book. This will keep you on your toes as you struggle with Vance Coreman in his fight for knowledge.

I had a ton of fun peeling back the layers of this imaginative adventure.

April 19, 2019

Format: Kindle Edition

I was fully engaged from the first page through to the end. It was so much fun investigating this mystery (or mysteries?) with Vance Coreman and Ms. Doolittle. Mystery, adventure, good characters, more mystery, sly jokes, etc...

The story starts as fantastical-yet-modest mystery, but quickly expands to much more. Every new detail we learn of Vance's predicament makes us more curious to find answers along with him. The story is surprisingly intricate but never feels complex.

Ignore the back cover description. Fast-paced adventure with a bit of video game-style setting

July 9, 2019

Format: Kindle Edition

The description of the book doesn't do it justice, I think. I was thrown off initially by the description of the character waking up with no memory in a bathtub. But, it actually works. The character lives in a world like a video game simulation with magic. He's learning the rules, quickly, but there's certainly a sense of panic that he won't learn things fast enough. The pacing is nicely done, and I would enjoy reading another in the series. Fantasy, adventure, mystery. Good fun!

Side note: I only give 5 stars to books that were absolutely stellar, so there's certainly no disrespect intended with 4 stars. I really enjoyed and recommend this book. As 4 stars indicates on Goodreads, I "really liked it."
