I had one major plot bump (and it happened twice) when late in Forty Thieves the Hoyts have a chance to carry out a surprise attack the Abels when they leave one of the diamond thieves gang's house, but choose not to give no compelling reason to let them go. This was followed by the a similar chumminess between the two sides in the climatic scene. Neither of which I really accepted.
