The question of whether Vance was dead or not became more than academic when he found himself in a bathtub up to his chin in ice water like some forgotten cocktail garnish, a demonic woman standing over him, and no memory of how he got there.

Story structure

I'm going to proposed that the definition of story structure (and go and look for supporting or countering arguments) to mean the mapping of the purely linear sequence of words into a sequence of events and the viewpoints associated with those events. For instance, the structure of P. G. Wodehouse's "Goodbye to All Cats" is a frame of one member of the Drone's Club telling the story of a linear sequence of events of Freddy Widgeon's visit to Matcham Scratchings.

  • linear
  • nonlinear
  • flashback
  • frame
  • episodic
  • reversed
  • parallel
    • converging
    • diverging
    • overlapping
    • alternating
