Chronicles from the Nexus
- These stories are set in the Nexus, long after the home world is lost and among the fading echoes of a transhuman civilization . . .
Stories from The Nexus
About
I was inspired to start writing the Chronicles by my desire to create action-adventure stories like those I reveled in as I grew up. From the tales of Captain Future, Richard Seaton, Kimball Kinnison, Doc Savage, Perry Rhodan, Richard Benson, The Shadow, Conan the Barbarian, The Three Musketeers, Dray Prescott, and many, many more science fiction, adventure, and fantasy stories that inspired my imagination I was (eventually) drawn to the idea of writing my own tales of swashbuckling high adventure in exotic realms. As you might guess, I also got into role playing early on (in fact, I started playing Dungeons and Dragons the year following their first publication) and have spent not inconsiderable effort designing my own variations on rules and world building. So, yes, the Chronicles from the Nexus were inspired by my RPG experiences. While none of the stories are "actual events", that is to say, they are not transcriptions of role playing sessions, the setting and many of the characters originated in either one of my campaigns or in friends' campaigns.
In addition to the roots that the Chronicles from the Nexus have in literature -- and yes, I think that genre fiction is, or can be, literature -- and gaming, much inspiration has been derived from the cinema, such as The Three Musketeers (1973), The Four Musketeers (1974), A Fistful of Dollars (1964) (Blu-ray,DVD), The Scarlett Pimpernel (1983), Star Wars (1977), Blade Runner, The Duellists, The Terminator, Big Trouble in Little China, Die Hard, and a slew more.
