The question of whether Vance was dead or not became more than academic when he found himself in a bathtub up to his chin in ice water like some forgotten cocktail garnish, a demonic woman standing over him, and no memory of how he got there.

A work in progress. -- Fritz. -- Possibly rename this to something like: I blame the library (and my parents)

My formative years for reading science fiction and fantasy were from 1971 to 1975 primarily kicked off by my discovery in the Hannah Middle School library of Heinlein's juveniles (starting with Time for the Stars). The formative period was followed by a much longer "mature" period that ended in 1993 or so. I haven't stopped reading since 1993, but the overall rate of consumption of speculative fiction has declined, with very significant drop off at the fantasy end of things.

Forty years after I went down the Rabbit Hole of Wonder, I find myself drawn to the nostalgia of those early years of discovery. I am well aware that it is impossible to recover that sense of discovery and wonderment, and despite the very real prospect of disappointment, I have been rereading some of my favorite (or, at least, memorable) novels.
