Hunt for fondly remembered SF short story
Posted by Fritz. in Science Fiction, Search, Short StoryOne of the more memorable short stories that I read long ago was one about (as I remember it) some aliens who, breaking long standing warnings, kidnap a human in order to study him and find out why there was such dire warnings about not disturbing the humans. This story stands out in my mind because, contrary to many SF stories about us, we are dangerous.
In the process of my ad hoc survey of story beginnings I have been hoping to run across this story in one of the anthologies that I have been surveying. Last Friday night it came to me that the name of the story was something like “danger human” and I did a quick search for it on the net and found that indeed there is a short story by Gordon Dickson by the name of “Danger — Human!”. Checking on ISFDB I found that it appears in a number of anthologies by Dickson, but not in the anthologies that I thought it might. So I went off to the bookstore yesterday and found it in Dickson’s 1970 Mutants collection (which I aquired for a mere $2.50) and yes, it was the story I was thinking of. Which is cool. I’ve been wanting to re-read it. I’ll let you know how it stands up to the test of time.
Anyone have a fondly remembered short story that they have been trying to remember the name of?
