Exposition into Dialog

Recently there has been some discussion in the AAAWG about “show rather than tell”. This, in addition to some suggestions about letting the reader get to know the character a bit more before plunging them into the action led me to transform an early paragraph of exposition in “The Shaper’s Daughter” into a dialog scene.

I am currently working on:
- “Dispensing Justice” — A superhero novel.
  DJ (1st draft)
  42,700/67,500
- A new version of a my prologue to Tactics of Transience is in full fledged barf-mode (even if it is a re-write from a different characters perspective).
- A short story set during the Yondan Wars and featuring Chance. Finishing up polishing, out to beta readers.
- And the third draft of Tactics.

- I'm pondering: Is it better to have characters that grow or readers that are changed? 2010-07-09
